Visit from the Best Buy Geek Squad

We had 88 people present for the meeting today which featured a guest speaker from the local Best Buy store.  Lance was a well spoken outgoing member of the official Geek Squad so was able to talk about all the items we put on our wish list of topics.
He brought sample photo scanners to easily convert your slides into digital format plus this small machine also scans 35mm negatives into digital format so they can be edited in other software.  He also brought a small scanner that quite rapidly scans 4x6 or 5x7 photos.  The group had many questions regarding 3g vs 4g, use of smart phones, and differences between ipod and ipad devices.   He discussed various virus protection software and wireless connection devices. Next time you’re in the Best Buy store, stop in to see Lance and thank him for the time he spent with us.

Bill and Marilyn Grange have been doing an excellent job at buying door prizes for the group.  Prizes given today were an 8gig flash drive, a webcam camera, an aerosol cleaner, and a pen/notebook with keychain light.  Sorry I didn't get the winners names but congratulations to those who took home the gifts.

Next Wednesday, (Feb 9), we’ll have a speaker from Dish Satellite to talk about the behind the scenes work of bringing the internet to Palm Creek.  He is scheduled to arrive around 10:00 so we’ll start our meeting as usual at 9:30 and show some new computer tips.  When the speaker arrives, we’ll turn the meeting over to him at that point.
